Let's be honest, not all of us have the time (or the funds) to fully design our spaces. It can take a lot of forethought and research to find and arrange everything in such a way that makes a room feel both cohesive and unique. So, for the time-crunched and design-challenged, I would like to introduce you to the concept of the accent wall.
What is an Accent Wall?
An accent wall is exactly what it sounds like - one wall that is different from the rest and, as such, stands out and becomes a major design element in its own right. There are as many ways to create an accent wall as there are walls in the world, so I'm just going to share a few of my favorite ways to bring one's walls to life.
Adding color to your space can be difficult; most people seem to have trouble finding the sweet spot between clashing, clownish colors and leaving things so neutral that they feel bland. Using a wall to add a pop of color though, that's an easy (and cheap) thing to do. Just slab on a coat or two of paint and suddenly your place feels that much more lively!!
If a splash of color seems a bit much, or you prefer to keep to a more neutral color palette, playing with texture may better suit your tastes. This can be accomplished with something as simple as a textured wallpaper but it can also be taken much further. We all know that a brick wall, painted or not, screams New York loft but if you prefer a more farmhouse vibe, perhaps building a wood facade may be best for you.
The Gallery Wall
Maybe you're renting a place and you can't paint or go full-renovation guru and build your own accent wall but there are ways to do it in a noninvasive way as well. Have you heard of gallery walls? They're all the rage these days and are super easy to create. Just grab some posters, photos, tapestries, art prints, or anything else that's light enough to be taped or hung on a Command Hook. Lay your items out in any way you choose and suddenly your wall is a representation of you (and a great conversation starter).
In The Store
We've taken these tips into account ourselves, here at the store. Customers love our walls (most of which are covered in block prints, mirrors, and signage for days). The fan favorite, though? Definitely this painted wall accented with sequin and transparent curtains and fairy lights.
